Eye Strain : Easily Relieved by Eye Exercise

eye strain

We usually only realize the importance of our eyes when something abnormal happens, which is not ideal because ignoring it until it’s too late can be very dangerous. Therefore, taking care of our eyes is essential and should be done regularly. When eye strain starts, it’s necessary to have your vision checked, as eye problems often become more noticeable when you're working hard.

Eye Strain

Eye strain (also known as Eye Fatigue) is a condition where the eyes become tense, causing difficulty focusing and seeing clearly. It may sometimes lead to dry eyes, headaches, and other vision problems. This condition is typically caused by sitting in front of a computer screen or other display devices for long periods.

Causes of Eye Muscle Fatigue

Eye strain often occurs when you're working or trying to focus on something for a prolonged period, particularly when staring at a computer screen, which increases stress on the eyes and leads to eye muscle fatigue.

When you notice symptoms of eye strain or convergence insufficiency, you can help relieve the discomfort by using simple exercises like the following:

Materials you need:

  • A small flashlight (pencil-type) or a pencil/pen if you don't have a flashlight.

How to exercise the eye muscles:

  • Hold the flashlight or pencil with your dominant hand and extend your arm fully so that the flashlight or pencil is in front of the center of your nose.
  • Focus both eyes on the light. You should see only one light. If you see two lights, close both eyes for a moment, then open them again and try to focus until you see just one light or pencil.
  • Gradually move your hand closer to your eyes, slowly, to observe the difference between the starting point and the distance as you move the light or pencil.
  • Whenever you see two separate lights or the image becomes blurry, return your hand to the starting position, fully extending your arm again, and then slowly move it back in.
  • Repeat the exercise 20 times, then stop.
  • You should perform this exercise 3 times a day, 20 repetitions per session, totaling 60 repetitions daily, as explained in step
  • Do this regularly for 3 weeks, and after training, return for follow-up care.
