Pediatric ICU (PICU) 24 Hours

July 03 / 2025

PICU

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is now open, providing 24-hour care by pediatric critical care physicians. Close monitoring of symptoms is crucial for early detection of abnormalities, allowing timely intervention in case of changes or complications. Some complications can affect a child's development and brain function if not properly and promptly addressed. Close monitoring during the first 12 hours is particularly important.

  • Seizures from Fever: Seizures can occur due to high fever or as complications from illness. The risk of further seizures is highest during the first 12 hours.
  • Coughing and Wheezing: Severe coughing or wheezing can lead to difficulty breathing and the risk of oxygen deprivation, requiring chest physiotherapy and suctioning of mucus.
  • Head Injury: Head trauma, even without external wounds, can lead to concussion or brain damage.
