Many people misunderstand that getting dentures is purely for cosmetic reasons, such as getting them only when an anterior (front) tooth is extracted. However, dentists actually recommend getting dentures when other teeth are extracted as well. This is because when a permanent tooth is lost, a gap is left behind. If dentures are not placed, it can cause the adjacent teeth to shift, tilt, or become loose. Instead of losing just a single tooth, you could end up losing at least two or three more teeth.

Leaving an extracted tooth unreplaced also leads to bite issues (malocclusion), which makes chewing less efficient and can eventually cause facial asymmetry or distort your facial structure. When you calculate the potential long-term damage of not replacing a missing tooth, many find that spending that money on dentures is much more cost-effective. Therefore, dentures are incredibly important not just for aesthetics, but also for proper chewing and overall oral health.
Once an old tooth is pulled, you can't always just fit conventional dentures over the area that same evening. It is highly recommended to wait until the extraction wound is completely healed, which typically takes about 1 month. When the wound has healed properly without infection and the gums have fully shrunk and settled, the fabricated dentures will fit snugly against your gums. This prevents discomfort or irritation during wear and ensures you won't end up disliking your dentures.
