Chronic headaches should be taken seriously as they can be a sign of a brain tumor. Headaches can have numerous causes, including stress, lack of sleep, changes in vision, sinus infections, or muscle tension in the neck and shoulders. While most headaches resolve on their own, be aware of these three signs that indicate you should consult a doctor.
You have a chronic headache if you experience headaches for more than 15 days a month for at least three consecutive months. This can be an early sign of a growing brain tumor, which increases pressure in the brain and causes headaches.
If you start to vomit, especially in the morning, you should see a doctor immediately. This can be a significant symptom of a brain abnormality that isn't caused by typical stress.
These issues occur when a tumor presses on or displaces the part of the brain that controls certain functions. Symptoms vary depending on the tumor's location. For example, you may be unable to speak, experience weakness or numbness in your limbs, have trouble with balance, or experience seizures for the first time.
Since the exact cause of brain tumors is unclear and symptoms can appear suddenly, it's crucial to see a doctor for a proper diagnosis. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan can clearly show if a tumor or other abnormalities are present and determine the tumor's size. This allows doctors to create an effective treatment plan.
If a tumor is blocking the flow of fluid in the brain, a doctor can use one of three treatment methods: radiation therapy, chemotherapy, or surgery. The doctor will choose the best treatment based on the patient's symptoms and the tumor's location and size.
