Basic CPR Training: Learning For Saving Many Lives

August 27 / 2026

CPR

CPR doesn't only save the lives of heart disease patients! It can also assist patients in other accidents, such as drowning or oxygen deprivation.

Performing CPR is Extremely Important

Because CPR temporarily restarts blood circulation after a sudden cardiac arrest, serving as a life-sustaining measure while waiting for medical treatment or emergency rescue services. However, life support using this method carries a risk of side effects, such as fractured ribs.

Recommendation

Doctors recommend that everyone learn proper life support techniques from healthcare facilities or public health educational resources, especially those who have loved ones with heart disease. This knowledge enables us to save the lives of our loved ones in a timely manner if an unexpected event occurs, avoiding regret later.

Basic CPR within 4 Minutes Increases Survival Chances for Fellow Human Beings

CPR should be performed within 4 minutes to prevent damage from hypoxia (lack of oxygen). When combined with an automated external defibrillator (AED), its effectiveness increases significantly. The basic first-aid steps for assisting a patient are as follows:

  • When finding an unconscious person, inspect for safety before approaching to help (e.g., check for accidents or electric shock) to ensure personal safety.
  • Ask nearby people for help, check whether the patient is breathing, and immediately call 1669 as quickly as possible.
  • If assessed that the patient is unconscious and not breathing, perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) immediately.
  • Place the patient flat on their back on a hard surface. Interlock hands and place them in the center of the chest between the nipples.
  • Perform chest compressions to a depth of at least 5 cm at a rate of 100-120 compressions per minute. Perform 30 chest compressions alternating with 2 rescue breaths.

Performing CPR using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

  • Continue CPR until the rescue team arrives. If an AED is available, use it immediately by strictly following the instructions provided by the device. **If the patient regains consciousness, place them in a recovery position (which can be done in several ways, but generally should keep the body sideways at a right angle to the ground as much as possible with the head low to prevent aspiration of vomit into the lungs).
  • Hand over the patient to the emergency rescue team for hospital transport.
