Blood Donation

Ramkhamhaeng Hospital has implemented the highest level of infection control measures.

  • Screening for Blood Donors Please self-screen before coming to donate blood. If you have any of the following symptoms, you should refrain from donating blood for at least 14 days: Fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, loss of smell, loss of taste, red eyes, or rashesRecent visits to crowded places, entertainment venues, or areas with ongoing outbreaksClose contact with someone diagnosed with COVID-19
  • Strict Measures All personnel are trained to follow the guidelines strictly. Everyone in the area is required to wear a mask at all times. Hand sanitizing gel is available at all touchpoints. The venue and equipment are thoroughly disinfected. Social distancing is practiced, and barriers are set up between staff and blood donors at all stages of the donation process.

Guidelines Before Donating Blood:

  • Get at least 5 hours of sleep the night before.
  • Be in good health and feel well. If you are taking any medication, inform the health screening staff.
  • Eat a regular meal before donating blood, but avoid fatty foods (e.g., fatty pork rice, chicken rice, coconut curry, or sweets) for 6 hours prior to donating. High-fat meals can cause the plasma to appear cloudy, rendering it unusable.
  • Drink about 3-4 glasses of water 30 minutes before donating to help with blood circulation and reduce the chances of fainting.
  • Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours before donating blood.
  • Avoid smoking for 1 hour before and after donating blood to allow better blood circulation.

Guidelines During Blood Donation:

  • Wear clothing with sleeves that can be rolled up at least 3 inches above the elbow.
  • Choose an arm with a clearly visible vein and without any rashes, bruising, or infections.
  • Do not chew gum or suck on candies while donating blood.
  • Squeeze the rubber ball regularly to help the blood flow smoothly.
  • If you feel any unusual symptoms, such as dizziness, lightheadedness, numbness, or abnormal pain, notify the staff immediately.
