Ovarian cancer can occur in women of all ages but is more commonly found in those approaching menopause or who have already gone through it. Detecting ovarian cancer in its early stages is quite difficult because it often presents with no specific symptoms, leading most cases to be diagnosed only after the disease has progressed.

The difficulty in early detection is due to the ovaries being located deep within the pelvis. Any abnormal mass is often discovered incidentally during a health checkup. Without regular examinations, the mass may grow large enough to cause noticeable symptoms, such as:

  • Digestive symptoms: bloating, abdominal fullness, indigestion, or constipation
  • A feeling of abdominal enlargement, often mistaken for weight gain
  • Abdominal pain or discomfort, often misinterpreted as gastritis
  • Frequent or difficult urination

Therefore, regular annual health checkups and pelvic examinations are very important.

Self-observation tips

If you experience any of the following unusual symptoms:

  • Persistent abdominal pain lasting more than a month

  • Noticeable abdominal swelling or bloating

  • Changes in digestion or bowel movements

  • Abnormal urination

You should consult a doctor promptly for evaluation of possible gynecologic conditions.
